Why PubSafe Exists

PubSafe was created to solve a problem that becomes painfully clear during every disaster: communities are willing to help, but they are rarely coordinated.

While emergency alerts and government systems do an important job informing the public, they often stop short of enabling action. Citizens receive warnings, volunteers self-deploy, and organizations work in parallel—frequently without shared situational awareness.

PubSafe was built to close that gap by connecting public safety agencies, NGOs, CERT teams, and citizens on a single community disaster response platform.

PubSafe (powered by Aftermath Data) was created after watching the Cajun Navy parked on the side of I-10 heading to New Orleans after hurricane Katrina. It was apparent there was something special happening and we were witnessing the birth of grassroots community rescue and recovery by everyday citizens. The members of Cajun Navy had no direction, communication or instruction; they were just heading out to help any way they could. These volunteers did not know each other or have a leader. They desperately needed a tool for disaster response services, reporting, communication, and allocation of resources. The name Cajun Navy somehow came to life and stuck.

Seeing this great movement, Marine Infantry Officer, founder and CEO, Eron Iler, realized there was a great opportunity to assist the Cajun Navy, and similar volunteers thereafter, with real-time information, data and communication, so they could maximize their response efficiency. The common denominator for everyone involved was a smart phone.
